To whoever deemed the photos in the Review 'inappropriate', I would just like to say that I was in fact very proud to have been one of the girls in the photos selected to be printed that week and I am sure the others who participated in this light-hearted affair also feel the same.
I find it extremely saddening that you feel the need to complain about something that is not only a bit of fun, but something that is also teaching people to love their bodies, to love the way they look. Since when has fun suddenly become such a crime?
I also believe that your complaint has illustrated a serious social problem in that even partial nudity has become a taboo that people feel uncomfortable with, when it shouldn't be. It is my opinion that it is people like you within society, that are causing more damage than good, because you are dampening the self esteem of other people.
I would also like to say that comparing the, frankly, discreet photos on the front of our local paper to that of the national tabloids is a compliment. If we, a small local paper, can break a social taboo than all the better!
If these images make people feel more confident so that they may want to take their own photos then I feel that we have succeeded in something more than light-hearted fun. And in regard to taking this matter further you may succeed there, but you must remember that for every person these photos offend, there will be five more people who find it, funny, inspiring and educating – so perhaps you may feel as though you have had a 'moral' victory, but you will never stop people loving their bodies and wanting to show them off. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if you just inspire them further.
Georgina Gyde, Lydney.
