A FIRST minute try was not enough to secure a win for Lydney against Canterbury in their final match of the season, but manager Colin Henderson is still celebrating their ranking.

Henderson said: "After the win over Ealing ensured our safety, we perhaps didn't have as strong a team as we would have liked, but we have achieved what we set out to do and remain in the National Three for next season.

"It was a typical end of season game and we got two points out of it. We scored four tries and they scored four tries so it should have been a pretty entertaining game to watch. We came back well towards the end."

He praised Tony Wicks, who scored the first try of the match in the first minute. Dan Freeman and Liam Trigg were also congratulated on their performance. He said: "You have to take your hats off to all the kids who are coming through at the moment.

"It is onwards and upwards to next season at the moment and we will try to pick up a few more players on the way."
