More than 150 people are expected to descend on the villages of Yorkley, Pillowell and Viney Hill this Sunday, June 9, for their annual Open Garden event.

Visitors can discover High View garden, the home of the well-known poet FW Harvey, with original art work on show around the garden, with the FW Harvey Society displaying information about the poet.

Whilst savouring the unique atmosphere of the Forest, people are invited to visit a variety of small and large gardens, including bountiful cottage style gardens, a fascinating woodside garden, organic gardens, vegetable plots and a garden with chickens and bantams.

There will be delicious lunches and teas available on Stag Hill in Yorkley, with a well-stocked plant stall ideal for browsing.

The Open Garden event is on Sunday, June 9, from 10am - 5pm, with 12 gardens to visit for £5 (children free). Entry wristbands are available in advance, and on the day from Yorkley Stores and Post Office (also on the day from any participating open garden).

Jeane Ball, one of the event organisers, said: “The previous year Open Gardens events have been immensely successful with people coming from far afield as well as local visitors. We have heard many remarks praising the beauty of the Forest as well as the lovely gardens visited. This event is essential to the continuation of the newsletter which is much appreciated by the residents who have it delivered to them each month.”
