A FORCES mum has spoken movingly of her thoughts for her son and all the soldiers from 1 Rifles Regiment as they embark on their third tour of duty to Afghanistan.
Carol Ridler's son, Colour Sergeant Shaun Ridler, heads for Afghanistan next Tuesday (April 12) leaving his wife and two children in Beachley.
He is part of the main contingent heading for a six month tour of duty in the wartorn country.
Carol writes: "All our support and love go with them. My thoughts go out to all our brave men and women and their families waiting at home for their safe return."
Colour sergeant Ridler, 36, is a career soldier who joined as a boy soldier aged 16 and entered the Gloucestershire Regiment aged 17. He was Cinderford born and bred, attending St Whites School, then Heywood before enlisting.
Carol writes: "Thank you to everyone for their help and support in funding the £450 Swift and Bold 1 Rifles wristband appeal."
Carol has also helped raise a magnificent £6,360 for Help for Heroes, with strong support from Cinderford Rugby Club and the people of Cinderford.
"Please, please carry on fundraising to support our troops.
"To all first Rifles. God bless, keep you all safe 'til you return home."
