CHRIS Jones was at Woolaston on Saturday (June 1) to capture this image of the end of era as a High Speed Train (HST) made a final tour to mark their withdrawal from front-line, long distance services.

The HST went into service between London Paddington, the West Country and South Wales in 1976 and the tour – which was full of rail enthusiasts – visited all the points where they had been a familiar sight for more than 40 years

They were rare visitors to the Forest and Severnside – usually as a result of engineering works in the Severn Tunnel.

The train on Saturday was powered by the first and last engines made for the fleet.

The tour had started in Bristol, headed to London and then to Carmarthen in West Wales via Worcester.

It then headed back to London via Gloucester, allowing Chris, of Channel Images, to get the shot before finishing in Plymouth.
