IN reply to Richard Leppington (April 27), I would like to point out that the Conservative Party underwent political change in January 1924; when the first Labour government, under the leadership of Ramsay MacDonald, came into power.

As time has passed things have changed and we must change with them. I, for one, would not want the old days back.

A number of people are disillusioned by the two major parties and they are not all Tory voters. This is leading to people voting for protest parties because they are hoping for something different. The proof of this is highlighted by George Galloway winning the Bradford seat for his party "Respect."

Britain's entry into the Common Market was determined by experts and involved a great deal of money. Should we decide to come out, we would be on our own.

There is however, one of UKIP's policies which I do agree with and that is the one on illegal immigration. I should like to see the party assisting these poor, misguided people back to where they came from and cracking down on the traffickers.

The streets of London are not paved with gold, but unemployment and human misery.
