A one-woman campaign to beat a town's dog mess menace has been launched by Lydney housewife Sonia Miller.
Fed up and angered by the mess left by dogs walked near her home at Beauchamp Meadow, Lydney, Mrs Miller has already won the support of parents who take their children to a nearby school.
"Everyone is fed up with the problem but no-one seems prepared to do anything about it, so I thought I would have a go myself," Mrs Miller told the Review.
"It is a real problem – the recent deluge of letters to the Review is evidence of that – and I know the parents of children attending nearby Primrose Hill School feel the same way," she said.
Mrs Miller hopes to have won the support of town mayor Mr David Clarke in her bid to get dog owners to accept responsibility for their pets.
"Parents certainly feel strongly about the problem. A number of them have agreed to take disposal bags with them to hand out to people walking dogs," she said.
Mrs Miller, who has lived in Lydney for seven years, says she has grown to love the town and was quite prepared to launch a 'Keep Lydney Clean' campaign.
With the support of the town council she says she will encourage local businesses to sponsor disposal bins to be placed in strategic positions round the town.
"It has always been a problem but one that has increased quite dramatically since foot and mouth restrictions closed off so many areas," she said.
