A PET rescue
group celebrated gaining charitable status with a fun day and dog show at Coleford’s Angus Buchanan Recreation Ground.
Forest of Dean Dog Rescue hosted the event on Sunday, May 21, which included nine classes and a have-a-go session run by trainer Nicky Hutchison of Take the Biscuit.
The come-and-try-it morning event proved popular, with owners and their dogs trying out agility, racing against the clock in the scurry and putting recall to the test in ‘Temptation Alley’.
The fun dog show commenced at 2pm, judged by Tina Kemp of Clever Canines in Berry Hill. The classes included ‘Best Rescue’, ‘Waggiest Tail’ and ‘Dog the Judge most wants to take Home’, and the first three placed in each class were rewarded with rosettes and goody bags.
FODDR Treasurer Maggie Marshall said: “This is the first event of its kind we have organised and we were delighted with the result.
“The event was very well attended, the weather was kind and we all enjoyed our day.
“Thank you to everyone who participated and helped make the day a huge success. We are extremely grateful to the Angus Buchanan Recreation Ground committee for agreeing to host this inaugural event and we look forward to working together again, and hopefully next year will be bigger and better.
“We would very much like to thank our show sponsors, Jodie Sterry Canine Trainer and Behaviourist, Gemma’s Dog Training and Behaviour, and Regalrouge Dogue de Bordeaux and Dog Grooming – all based in Coleford, keeping it truly local.”
A recreation ground trust member said: “The Angus Buchanan VC Memorial Recreation Trust committee were delighted to host the charity dog show in the grounds which was enjoyed by members of the community and their pets.”
The trust was established in 1923 to celebrate the bravery of Angus Buchanan from Coleford who was awarded the Victoria Cross in World War I.
FODDR is a small registered charity run entirely by volunteers. It does not have kennels, all dogs live with fosterers until they are ready to move on to their new homes.
They receive a full medical check-up and any health issues are addressed.
