POLICE have urged anyone with information about a spate of acid attacks on four cars and a motorhome in St Briavels to contact them.
Inspector Andrew Hodgetts, local commander for the Forest of Dean, and a neighbourhood policing sergeant have visited the latest victim - 73-year-old John. Hurley - along with a local councillor and other concerned residents.
CCTV caught what appears to be a middle aged woman wearing a devil’s mask and a black wig and a short balding middle-aged man wearing glasses during one attack.
A Gloucestershire Police spokesperson said last week: “We are aware that there are community concerns in the Forest following recent reports of a “spate” of acid attacks on cars.
“Last month we were called to an address in Cold Harbour, St Briavels where a car had been significantly damaged in such an attack. No offenders have been identified and no forensic evidence has been recovered.
“In June 2017 we investigated reports of a similar incident at a property in Pool Cottage Lane, St Briavels.
“The investigation included reviewing CCTV footage and forensic tests on plastic items recovered from the scene, which were inconclusive.
“A wig and face mask, thought to have been used by the offenders, were recovered more than a mile from the scene and there is no proof of them being connected to the incident.
“A woman was arrested in connection with the incident but following extensive enquiries she was later released with no further police action.
“Two further incidents were reported in November and December 2017, the first in Pool Cottage Lane and the second in Coleford Road,” they added.
“No suspects have been identified in either case.
“The victims have been updated throughout all investigations and crime prevention advice given.
“We take all incidents of criminal damage very seriously and we would urge anyone with information about these, or those involved, to contact us on 101 or through the confidential Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111.
“We are also aware of an ongoing civil dispute within St Briavels.”
