POLICE are investigating two back-to-back burglaries in Lydney overnight on Tuesday to Wednesday, September 18 to 19.

The raids came four days after a 1am smash and grab raid on a jewellery store in the town's high street which netted thousands of pounds worth of stock.

Offenders broke into a building site at Bellway off Highfield Road at some point between 5.15pm and 6.45am on September 18 to 19, before ransacking the area.

Makita drills, a hammer, a pair of work boots, four wooden doors and another drill were among items stolen.

Gloucestershire Police said a substation nearby was also broken into around the same time and a microwave removed from the office area.

Anyone with information is asked to call 101 quoting incident number 56 (building site) or 86 (substation) of 19 September.

Police are also still appealing for information over the Friday, September 14, raid on the town's Taylors Jewellers, after thieves broke a window in the shop door before smashing display cabinets and making off with distinctive watches, jewellery and cigarette cases.

Witnesses reportedly saw two masked men get into a silver Volkswagon seven-seater car and drive off at speed towards Whitecroft along Forest Road.

Police have said the getaway car was thought to have been parked in Regent Street

Shop owners Claire and Adam Taylor have offered a reward for the return of the jewellery or for information leading to a prosecution.

Claire described the raid as ‘bold’ and ‘distressing’.

She told the Review: “A lot of what the thieves took was very distinctive. There were a number of women’s and men’s Lorus watches and Emozioni jewellery.

“Pearl jewellery was taken and antique silver, including vesta match boxes and cigarette cases dating back to the early 20th century.”

Officers are appealing for witnesses and anyone with information to call 101 quoting incident number 15 of September 14.
