THE huge success of Proms Nights at Magnums night club in Coleford, have led to the launch of a regular Thursday night teen club through the summer holidays.
The events are being organised by Coleford rural beat officers Rob Dix and Denise Meredith and the licensee of the Angel Barry Stokes – the trio who set up the original Proms Night.
The first evening has been set for July 25, from 7pm to 10.30pm, and entry will be strictly members only through applications to Barry at the Angel in Market Place, Coleford (Tel: 01594 833113). Entry will cost £2.50 a night.
"Angels will be for the 11-plus age group and it will offer the dance and music facilities of magnums along with snacks, soft drinks and fruit cocktails," said PC Dix, who added he saw it as an investment for the future.
"It will provide local officers with opportunities to develop positive relationships with the youth of the area and also provide a ready platform from which to present special evenings to address important issues such as drug and alcohol misuse and personal safety.
"We want our young people to grow up knowing an having a healthy respect for their local police officers.
"They are the adults and parents of the future and over the next five to ten years or so we will hopefully have rebuilt some of the broken bridges between the police and the community."
Barry Stokes said the Prom Nights had been a huge success.
"Many parents I spoke to were very disappointed when the Prom Nights stopped, as were their children.
"The events are a step up from the usual discos because we are using a professional night club facility with the music, lights and other effects."
