IT seems nobody can turn down a girl wih some mistletoe, especially in the festive season!

Enterprising Bridget Marshall from Soudley has raised a whopping £618 in one day for Macmillan Nurses, the at-home cancer care charity, by selling bunches of the "magic" berry branches in the doorway of Lydney's Tesco Store.

Her 10am to 5pm pre-Christmas stint saw tons of Mistletoe disappear and in the process she gathered more than a few kisses as well as cash!

"Actually I got loads," she said. "People were so good hearted and I want to thank them all – I had a really, really happy day."

With husband Phil playing carols on the harmonica to accompany her the offerings flew off the shelves...or rather, out of the sack.

Bridget does it all in memory of her friend Caludia Knight who died six years ago from cancer.

"Macmillan Nurses helped her a lot which is why I think it is such a good cause," she said, praising the Tesco store management for letting her continue in their foyer when it grew cold and wet outside.

She has been conducting the money-spinning venture for a few years now but the 2011 effort "was definitely the best I have ever done. Thank you everyone."

She specially thanked friends with orchards in Awre and Pope's Hill who had given her all the mistletoe.
