A MUM and daughter team from Ross-on-Wye will be launching The Woolly Prawn, a new style of knitting and crochet book, at Miju Wools in Gloucester on Saturday December 15.
For the last two years Jenny Every and her daughter, Sian Goulding, have been working on their self-published book which is aimed at a new generation of knitters and crocheters.
It really is a family affair as Jenny's nephew's girlfriend, Katie Walter, has seen to the design and illustrations and sons-in-law Duncan Woods and Jonathan Goulding have done the photography.
The inspiration for the book came after Jenny taught 35-year-old Sian to knit and they spotted a gap in the market. They struggled to find inspiring and appealing pattern books with a selection of items that Sian wanted to make.
The Woolly Prawn is a pattern book with a difference. Not only does it contain 16 patterns (including one for a woolly prawn) and provide tips on how to adapt them but it also explores the wider world of knitting and crochet. The reader is introduced to some of the lesser known goings-on such as knit graffiti, hyperbolic crochet and the potential of using knitting in mainstream healthcare.
Sian says: "For me knitting and crochet isn't about having wonderful technique or worrying about tension squares. I like the experimental side of things – trying out different colours and effects and simply creating things. And I hope that's what comes across in our book."
The launch event will run from 12pm - 3pm on Saturday December 15 at Miju Wools in Gloucester. The authors will be on hand, prawn related canapés will be served and everyone is welcome.
