LLOYD-Webber look out – your talent show has stiff competition from Pup Idol, our drive to find the best dog in our area to play pet Sandy in the 60s musical Annie!

Chepstow Musical Youth Theatre is calling for pictures of pets you think might fit the bill for Annie's little companion – and the winner will star in the real stage show!

Organiser Louise Best says the breed is not important but it must fill the following criteria:

•Neutered and housetrained

•Bomb proof around children

•Not spooked by loud noises or crowds

•Be obedient from a distance and be able to follow or learn hand signals. 

The handler and dog must be available to rehearse on Tuesday and Thursday evenings and for performances on July 3 to 6 with a matinee on the Sunday.

The rehearsals are held at Chepstow Baptist Church and performances will be at The Drill Hall Chepstow as part of Chepstow Festival.

"I would initially like people to email me with pictures and a resume for the dog," said Louise.

"We will draw up a shortlist for auditions and whittle this down to three dogs. A Gala Final evening will be open to the public and include performances from CMYT pupils, including Sandy's scene from the show."

There will be prizes for the winner and runners up.
