PUPILS at Lydney's Whitecross School have responded to a challenge set by JC 2000 to write a play incorporating art, drama, music and dance.

JC 2000 is a nationwide association which examines the relevance of the teachings of Jesus Christ and the role of christianity today. They are working with schools in curriculum-based activities, exploring the concept through expressive arts.

Whitecross teacher David Clarke has written the play in conjunction with pupils who also composed the musical score.

The theme of the performance is 'the road to life' and takes the form of a play within a play.

In it, 'The Forest Production Company' make a film about the crucifixion and resurrection. It begins with the company filming an epic movie and goes on to explore the spread of christianity, examining the road to temptation taken by the actors en route.

It has a Forest theme with Foresters, freeminers and 'badgers' taking a role! The pupils' performance is evaluated and forms part of the marks given at GCSE.

Performances are taking place on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday of this week. Friday's play will be performed in memory of the late head of art, Mrs Margaret Wilcox, with proceeds to go to the Forest Hospice project.
