I WAS saddened to learn of the demise of steel container firm Lydney Building Concepts (formely Lydney Containers Ltd) and concerned to hear that while many hard working, skilled and experienced men from the Forest of Dean are now desperate for work and reluctantly signing on for state benefits to suport their families, the other container manufacturers (who will no doubt benefit form Lydney's demise) are allegedly recruiting cheap labour from Poland.

If this is true then I am appalled and would understand if there were protests of a similar nature to those recently featured on the news.

It is time to say enough is enough and ensure British jobs for British workers. – Disgusted Lydney resident.

Rising cost of councils

THE lengthy letter from Mr John Nicholls (Review, February 27) sets out in detail valid objections to the cost (of councils and councillors) that we can be lumbered with.

There is one other cost: the councillors themselves. Can anyone remember the days prior to local government reorganisation in the seventies when councillors gave their time for the public good? – Bernard Wheeler, Newnham-on-Severn.
