RADIO is making a return to the Forest around Cinderford for a 10 day period in November as part of a lottery funded test to see if there's an appetite for a wider service in the future.
Community radio station, Triangle FM, will re-launch following the closure of Forest of Dean Radio on December 31, 2009, starting with a broadcast from studios in the Belle Vue Centre from the end of November.
Roger Thorne, who is leading the project, says a three day trial run in 2010 showed: "There is still an appetite for Community Radio in the area.
"We were very pleased with the reaction to that first broadcast and want to give our community more opportunities to have their own voice. It has taken a long time to get funding in place for this year, but thanks to a lottery grant we can now update our equipment, pay for the licences required and offer training to anyone in the community who wants to get involved.
"The grant won't pay for the all the project costs so we are talking to and are hopeful of finding a local sponsor soon. Meantime we have enough to allow us to move forwards with more confidence".
Initially the station will have a restricted service licence allowing it to broadcast for a temporary period to a five kilometre radius around Cinderford. If all goes well Roger says the intention will be for a more permanent operation.
"This coming broadcast will be very much centred on Cinderford and will highlight the good things about the town and surrounding area. We'll be involving as many people and groups from the area as we can, giving them the chance to get on air and tell everyone about the positive side of life in the town.
"What we want to do is give Cinderford a voice, involving as many people from the community as possible and giving the people a big voice to shout out for Cinderford."
•Training for those who want to get involved will start in early September, and anyone who would like to be part of the station either on air or behind the scenes should get in touch with Triangle FM should contact the station by email at triangle [email protected]">[email protected], or by leaving a message on 01594 827992.
