DISGRUNTLED rail passengers will be able to vent their frustrations at a public meeting later this month.

The meeting will highlight problems at Severn Tunnel Junction station, a key interchange for passengers travelling from the Forest and Wye Valley to Bristol.

It is being organised by STAG (Severn Tunnel Action Group) which was formed eight years ago to protest at proposed timetable cuts.

STAG spokesman David Flint said the issues to be discussed are delays and cancellations, overcrowding and car parking.

He said: "'We understand that passengers are again being let down and we intend to fight for their rights to a decent rail service."

Official statistics show 190,000 more journeys from the station in seven years, he added.

Train operator First Great Western and Monmouthshire County Council have been invited to the meeting at Rogiet Primary School next Tuesday (May 20) at 7pm.

Mr Flint said: "In the coming months further disruption is expected as the footbridge and the ticket office are both due to be replaced.

"Network Rail employees, it is anticipated, will take up valuable car parking space for the engineering works.

"Within a year or two the road bridge leading to where over 50 cars currently park, is also due for replacement as main line electrification work takes place. This will lead to further disruption.

"In the meantime STAG continues to press the county council for the results of the survey and public consultation it conducted at the station nearly 18 months ago."
