THE DEAN Forest Railway (DFR) came to the rescue after a tanker train ran into problems.

One of the tankers was damaged during the journey from the Midlands to Milford Haven and the DFR offered a haven of its own.

The train was taken off the mainline and the damaged tanker was uncoupled awaiting repair.

A crane arrived at the DFR on Tuesday (January 19) as part of the operation to replace the damaged wheel bogie.

Roger Phelps, of the Dean Forest Railway, said: “We were compensated for the assistance we gave and it was a lot less than it would have been had it not come to the railway.”
