I AM very concerned to note that Sustrans are so caught up in the excitement of their proposed route that they are ignoring the very real safety concerns related to the proposed access points.

In particular the lanes in and around Brockweir are largely single track. Two vehicles pass only with difficulty, there are virtually no footpaths and there is very little parking.

Sustrans seem to think that thousands of people can access the path at this point and their material suggests that the very small pub car park can be used – wishful thinking in terms of the numbers they project, let alone the more realistic numbers suggested by other cycle routes.

Your front page last week ('Thumbs up for cycle bridge') highlighted the differences between Sustrans proposals and the well thought out cycle routes in the Forest, run from Pedalbikeaway, with good access and parking arrangements.

I hope the planning committee will visit Brockweir and ask themselves how risky the proposed access will be. Would they want a member of  their family trying to negotiate it on a bicycle? Where will Sustrans be when the shortcomings in their proposals materialise as an injury?

It would be good if Sustrans could face up to these legitimate concerns instead of firing up support for a track that could be too dangerous to access. – L. Parker, Llandogo.
