TWO teams of footballers had valuables worth thousands of pounds in total stolen as they played. 

Thieves smashed their way into the changing rooms at Caldicot Town’s Jubilee Way ground as the Welsh League first division side played Haverfordwest County on Saturday afternoon. 

It was one of several incidents on both sides of the border over the last week   

Police in Caldicot are investigating the break-in at the football ground as well as two other thefts in the town. 

In the Forest, a store in Bream was broken into on Wednesday night (March 8) and early

on Saturday morning shops in Pyart Court, Bank Street and St John Street, Coleford were attacked. 

Thieves smashed a window to gain entry to the changing rooms at Caldicot FC sometime between 2pm and 4pm as the game was in progress. 

A club spokesman said: “At some stage during our home game on Saturday against Haverfordwest County the changing facilities were broken into by a person/persons who proceeded to steal a substantial amount of money along with wallets, credit and bank cards and many other personal items belonging to both teams.   

“The police were called immediately and the club are continuing to work with them to help catch the perpetrators.   

“Everyone at the club is devastated by what has happened and the effect it has had on all those on both teams who have been impacted.” 

Gwent Police have asked for anyone with information to call 101 quoting incident 404 of March 11. 

Thieves drilled the lock of a van parked in Dunlin Avenue, Caldicot and took power tools worth in total nearly £5,500 between 7.30pm on Friday (March 10) and 8.20am on Saturday. The incident number is 161 of March 11.   

Between 9am and 10am on Saturday morning, a limousine parked in Symondscliff Way on the Severn Bridge industrial estate was broken into and a tin containing £600 was taken. The incident number is 200 of March 11. 

Masked burglars who broke into a convenience store in Bream took a quantity of cigarettes. 

The intruders broke in through a side door at Maypole Stores on Coleford Road at around 10.45pm on Wednesday (March 8). 

Gloucestershire Police are asking anyone with information to call 101, quoting incident 53 of March 9. 

At around 5am on Saturday morning, three shops were attacked in Coleford with a till being stolen from the Day Lewis Pharmacy in Pyart Court. 

The Art of Hair salon in St John’s Court off Bank Street and the One Way shop in ST John Street were also targeted.
