CUTTING-EDGE robots will soon be at work in Lydney thanks to a £2.6million investment at Mabey Bridge’s site in the town.

Michael Treacy, chief executive of Mabey Bridge, said: “The robots include one that is the first of its kind to be used in the UK for making steel bridges, and the new process will create our most popular modular bridge.

“It requires the same amount of manpower as before and there will be no reduction in head count when these robots are operational. The new robots will mean we can manufacture the C200 bridging system more quickly, more safely and more efficiently and will give us the capacity to manufacture up to two kilometres of steel bridging a month.”

The new robots are being installed now and will be fully operational by March 2017.
