AS EVER the centre of Ross-on-Wye celebrated Shrove Tuesday with a pancake race.
Dozens of people – young and old – took part in the annual event which this year was organised by Cllr Hannah Lerego who has taken over from the Association of Ross Traders (ART).
All the money raised was in aid of SHYPP (Supported Housing For Young People Project) who provide 16 to 25-year-olds across Herefordshire with housing, training, and employment opportunities.
Ross Mayor Cllr Colin Gray, who was officiating at the start line, said: “The race was a great success – especially towards the end – despite the dismal weather.
“Hannah organised the event alongside ART who, for many years, always did but a lack of funding means they can no longer do so.
“She did a fabulous job – although it’s too early to say how much was raised for SHYPP. This year’s event didn’t fall on half term so was slow to start but it picked up by 3.30pm. In the meantime we had an under-fives race as well as grandparents and the traders.”
