IS it just me or does anyone else have concerns at the regular flouting of the speed limit on the stretch of road from the top of Ready Penny Hill to beyond the start of the 40 mph limit in Hillersland?

The Highways Department insists that, because there has been no incident in the last three years, they cannot justify taking steps to improve the safety of road users on this stretch of road!

Sadly, a gentleman wat­ched his wife killed whilst leaving their cottage and there have been several near misses at the narrowest point, the junction with Hillersland Lane.

Over a year ago, I began making enquiries of Highways as to how this road could be made safer for everyone and after they witnessed the problem, it was agreed that something should be done.

The gentleman is soon to return to his cottage and even though he is looking forward to going home, he is very concerned about his safety when going out of his own gate.?Surely something must be done or do we wait until another tragedy occurs?

Does anyone else agree?
