A BREAK with tradition paid off for organisers of the Monmouthshire Show.

For 150 years the show has been held on a Thursday in August but the 2017 event took place on Saturday (July 1).

Show secretary Liz Egerton said: “It’s brilliant to see more families attending the event, especially as it means that many people don’t have to take time off work to be here.

“It’s especially pleasing that by 1pm we had reached the attendance levels of last year and from that statistic alone

I would say that moving the show to a Saturday has been a great success.”

On show for the large crowd was the best in farming from both sides of the border and a wide-range of events in the main ring including 22 tug o’war teams.

The show, which is organised and put together by volunteers, was again well supported by traders from across the region.
