GARAGES in Ormerod Road, Sedbury could be demolished to make way for four affordable homes.

The Two Rivers Housing Association displayed the plans for the three-bedroom homes at a drop-in session at Wyedean School.

They were shown to Tidenham parish councillors last week.

There are currently 115 Sedbury families looking for a home and Two Rivers says the houses will go to people with local connections.

The site is presently occupied by 27 old garages owned by the housing association.

Only 13 of the garages are used and three of them are for general storage.

Two Rivers says it has an ample number of garages for rent nearby in Buttington Road and Saxon Place "so no-one will lose out."

Development director for Two Rivers Matt Hunt said it was an opportunity to provide four new family homes in an area where there is massive need.

He said: "We put people first, and that is what this is all about. We are busy reviewing all our garaging to ensure we make the best use of all our resources to deliver maximum value for the community. Two Rivers can deliver affordable homes because we are not for profit. We have plans for another 400 homes over the next few years, and where we already have land available we can deliver them all the faster.

"These homes will be 50 per cent more energy efficient than ordinary modern houses – so they will be cheap to run too. Energy prices are rocketing and fuel costs are a major headache for many families. So we are building energy efficiency in as standard.

"We are busy consulting with local people and the parish and are keen to hear their views. If anyone is interested in a home for affordable or rent or ownership just give us a bell on 0800 316 0897."
