A MAN who was seen falling from the old Severn Bridge last week is still missing.

Emergency services rushed to the M48 crossing on Saturday, June 1, around 7pm after the alarm was raised, but the man had fallen before they arrived.

An Avon and Somerset Police spokesperson said: “We were called to attend the M48 Severn Bridge at around 7pm on Saturday (June 1) following concern for a man’s welfare.

“Before officers arrived at the scene the man had fallen from the bridge.

“A search of the area was carried out by HM Coastguard, but the man was not located.”

Chepstow Coastguard also searched the water and shoreline, alongside Severn Area Rescue, the RNLI, police, ambulance staff, and a Coastguard Rescue Helicopter.

The tragedy came the day before police formally identified a woman’s body found off the West Wales coast as a missing Hereford doctor.

Dr Uma Kulkarni’s car was found beside the old Severn Bridge, in early April, 130 miles away from where her body was recovered three weeks later.

A police spokesman said: “The body of a woman recovered from the water off St Anne’s Head on Wednesday, April 24, has been confirmed to be that of missing 42-year-old woman Uma Kulkarni.”
