The RSPCA is asking for information about two Shetland ponies, found abandoned in a lane near Longhope on Thursday February 28.

The two animals, one a chestnut mare and the other a brown male with 'very overgrown hooves', were found grazing on a verge in Barrel Lane.

RSPCA inspector Rachel Hayward said: "The ponies were both covered in lice and not used to being handled. They were both seen by a vet and then transported to a yard where the male, in particular, had a long session with the farrier.

"We would love to have any information or clues, so that we can work out who the owners are."

Anyone with any information on the ponies can call Inspector Hayward, in confidence, on 0300 123 8018.
