A NEWNHAM woman is hoping her spectacular Christmas lights display will raise a large sum for Cancer Research UK.

Anna Whitney, of Orchard Rise, was inspired to start fund-raising by the death of her mum, Jane Miller, from pancreatic cancer.

The array of lights and figures was put up in the teeth of a storm a week before she married husband Darren at the end of November.

She said: “I’ve had a display of lights for a few years but this is the first time I’ve tried to raise money.

“I lost my mum to pancreatic cancer so this is a cause close to my heart.

“It was hard work setting these up as we were battling with the gale force winds and rain – the snow ended up on the other side of the road three times.

“Darren’s an electrician and runs his own business so he did all the electrical work.

“I’m hoping lots of people will come and see the lights and enjoy them and hopefully we can raise a lot of money for pancreatic cancer research.”

Pancreatic cancer has one of the lowest survival rates of any cancer and the money raised will go to Cancer Research UK.

The house will be lit up between 4pm and 8pm until at least Boxing Day and there is a collection box in the garden for donations.
