THE aim of the oldest rifle club in Wales is still true after members shot their way to a hatful of medals in a UK-wide competition.

Chepstow Rifle Club, which was formed in 1900 and is the second oldest in the UK, took on some 50 other clubs in the Phoenix Postal League, a competition for sporting rifles.

Shooters from the 30-strong club secured 12 medals in standing and against the clock categories.

The club, based at Chepstow Old Fire Station, was formed on November 15, 1900, at the George Hotel in Chepstow, just six months after the UK’s oldest club, Cheshunt, was founded.
