SLING and district residents are celebrating after receiving more than £50,000 to update and modernise the village community and recreation hall.
The Biffaward grant will allow replacement of the central heating system and upgrading of the lighting to more energy efficient systems. The toilets will also be replaced.
This will bring the facilities used by many local organisations, including recreation teams, the senior citizens club and the local dance troop, up to date and make the whole building more efficient to run.
Gillian French, project manager for Biffaward, said: "Everyone who attends groups, meetings and events will benefit."
Work is expected to start soon and everything will be completed by the middle of April.
Biffaward is a multi-million pound environment fund managed by the Royal Society of Wildlife Trusts, which utilises landfill tax credits donated by Biffa Waste Services.
