ANDREW Thorne's late late goal snatched a well deserved draw for Yorkley's young reserve team but they were made to work hard for the point against a more experienced team.

"It was a fair result and a good competitive game," reflected Yorkley's Malcolm Walters.

"First team calls always reflect on the standard of reserve teams and both sides have had to give up players this season. There was never much in it and that was reflected by the outcome," he said.

In a division dominated by local teams and headed by strong favourites Coleford United, Yorkley and St Briavels are near the bottom. Before the game they had just seven points each.

"At Yorkley we are fortunate to have a lot of young players. They are starting to play together as a team and the hope is that they will finish in the top half of the league," said Walters.

But it was St Briavels who made the best start. They scored within two minutes and dominated a lot of the first half.

Ian Phelps gave the youngsters some relief with a cracking penalty and Yorkley's hopes were boosted early in the second half when Stuart Hemmings slammed in a long range shot described by Walters as "a screamer."

St Briavels maintained their composure and scored twice more to take the lead. They looked likely to sneak a win until Thorne's goal late in the game gave the Yorkley boys a share of the spoils.
