PARTS of a Cinderford road crumbled in the torrential thunder storm last Thursday.
Motorists attempting to travel from Flaxley Street onto Church Road had to swerve around a sunken manhole which reportedly caused the road to lift slightly.
It wasn't believed to be serious but Severn Trent was investigating the incident.
The sudden storm swept across the Forest bringing with it rumbles of thunder, lightning, and heavy persistent rain. Carrie Clements lives on Church Road and said: "Due to the recent storm, the road is breaking up due to the drains failing, this is at the bottom of Flaxley Road, as it goes on to Church Road in Cinderford. Severn Trent are already there, but traffic is being held up a little by it."
One Facebook user commented: "One big down pour in 10 days which lasted no longer than an hour and a road crumbles!? Shocking."
Media and customer engagement for Severn Trent, Sarah-Jayne O'Kane said: "An issue on Church Road was reported to us on Friday last week. Our teams went out straight away and discovered a sunken manhole. A repair job has been raised, and we are waiting for permission from the council to put up traffic lights to allow us to do the job safely. We'll get the job done and everything back to normal as quickly as possible, and we'd like to apologise for any inconvenience this has caused."
