A ‘SUMMIT’ meeting, aiming to “identify practical solutions to the litter problem in Chepstow,” will take place next Thursday (17 January).

Graham Eele, spokesperson for Transition Chepstow said: “There is concern, among many residents and businesses in Chepstow, that the problem of litter in the town is getting worse. “Chepstow Town Council and Transition Chepstow, through its Plastic Free campaign, are organising the litter summit involving local government, national agencies with responsibility for our environment, schools, local businesses, voluntary bodies, representatives from different local communities and anyone who is concerned about the litter problem.

“The aim is to bring all these organisations and people together to identify practical solutions to the litter problem in Chepstow. This will be an opportunity to discuss the extent of the problem in Chepstow, to identify some of the causes and to set out possible solutions. Among the issues the meeting will discuss are what the litter problem is and why it is increasing, how littering can be made unacceptable and how organisations can work more effectively with the community to reduce litter.

“This represents the next stage in the campaign to make Chepstow a plastic-free town, by drastically reducing the amount of single-use plastic used in our town and by eliminating plastic litter from our streets and countryside.”

The summit will take place in the Drill Hall in Chepstow from 7.30pm to 9.30pm. More information can be obtained from Chepstow Town Council and [email protected] or from Graham Eele on 07709 680107.
