IF people like OAP of Coleford, insist on writing to the newspaper concerning the EU referendum, I wish they would get their sums right.
To say that Britain’s contribution to the EU budget is £50 million a day works out at £18 billion a year.
In fact the UK contribution is £9 billion a year.
If one sets this against the £78 billion a year in trade that is the UK’S net gain from being a member (IMF figures). It is money well spent.
There follows that there is no economic reason for the UK to leave the EU.
Historically, UKIP has never based their out campaign on economics, they have always played the immigration card when it comes to our membership which has led some to label them racist.
Since the formation of Brexit and the involvement of some high profile Tories, UKIP has toned down its rhetoric.
We no longer hear ‘swarms of Romanians’ and ‘hordes of Bulgarians’ – now it’s ‘regain control of our borders’.
They are not fooling anyone. Can a leopard change its spots?
