LAST week I wrote with regard to the 'Co-op Carbuncle' entrance block or, as someone said, Coleford's new helicopter pad.

Now this week, I am afraid it's the proposed Tesco entrance tower that is getting the thumbs down treatment. It's ghastly!

I have seen the architects impression of the new re-submitted design together with his comments to the planning officers.

I quote as follows: "The new tower at the store entrance has been designed to reflect Coleford's own historic clock tower in the Market Place."

Well, he must be having a laugh, because the only thing it looks like is the toilets in the carpark.

My bike shed at school was better than this.

What's up with architects these days? All they seem to have is a flat or wonky ruler.

An infant could do far better than the Tesco proposed design of the entrance block. At the moment it's a hovel!

It seems that both Co-op and Tesco have standard cheap and nasty kits for quick and easy structures, probably ideal for out-of-town sites, but not suitable for pretty market towns such as Coleford.

In the cases of both Co-op and Tesco, I am sure if they re-vamp their entrance towers to reflect the character of Coleford everybody would be far happier.
