SUPERMARKET group Tesco has sounded a clear message on the Cinderford store issue: "We won't let the people of Cinderford down."
Spokesperson Nicole Lander told The Review: "It is what the people asked for, and although the rejection of our plans is frustrating to say the least we are pressing on with looking at the other possible sites.
"We intend to see that Cinderford people get their store. It is all taking a lot of time, but we hope we are making progress."
She said an enormous amount of work had gone into the initial application and she personally had been sad to see it go to waste.
She said it had been a shame that the Cinderford store issue had become politicised by Government moves to switch emphasis away from major out-of-town superstores.
"Because it became a landmark case it has meant a lot more work," she said.
The Cinderford store project is one of two major developments the group is planning in the Forest.
In Lydney, the purchase of more land had meant that the plans for a store adjacent to High Street had needed to be redrawn and then resubmitted.
This had involved defining new car parking areas on the site of the town's former Feathers Hotel.
This site was also investigated by an archaeological team, but the full results of their appraisal were not yet known.
However the revised application was now "wending its way" through the planning permission process and she hoped for news on the venture in the near future.
