IT’S not unusual for bus timetables to be a bit out of date but one of the area’s biggest tourist attractions may have set a new record.

Cast your mind back to the summer of 2001 – for that is the period covered by the timetable in the Chepstow Castle car park.

The error was spotted by Richard Lemon of Chepstow while he was in the car park recently.

He said: “It doesn’t look good outside the biggest tourist attraction in the town.”

The timetable was for a Saturday shuttle service between July 28 and September 1 2001 and ran from the castle to the bus station.

The aim was to get more visitors to the town centre, the concern being that many were put off by the walk up the hill from the castle

The timetable is so dated that one of the stops is Woolworths in High Street.

A spokesman for Monmouthshire County Council apologised for the error but said they did not have the resources to keep all 700 timetable locations up to date.

He said: “Monmouthshire has over 700 bus infrastructures, many in remote locations – unfortunately the PTU (passenger transport unit) does not have the resources to change all roadside publicity.

“Although the PTU recognises the importance of displaying

correct roadside information at key locations in Monmouthshire, the way passengers access bus information has changed.

“Over 64 per cent of passengers in Wales access information through websites and 34 per cent through their tablet or smartphone.”
