A CINDERFORD dad narrowly missed out on scooping £5,000 after reaching the final chase of ITV1 hit game show The Chase – only to be beaten by 'The Governess'.

Kevin Hogarth's appearance was aired last Wednesday and saw him play a cracking game until Anne Hegerty, aka The Governess, caught him in the final round.

He said: "I was gutted I missed out on the money but was happy I made it that far. As I was the last contestant I wanted to see how many got through to the final chase. If the chaser was not playing well that day I would have taken the higher offer of £47,000 but unfortunately Anne was on form."

The game involves a team of four contestants answering general knowledge questions against the clock in order to win a potential prize pot worth thousands of pounds.

Players must stay one step ahead of the Chaser, who is a ruthless quiz genius determined to stop them winning – stay ahead of the Chaser and they share the pot, get caught and they lose the lot.

He added: "I reached the final chase with another player and we managed to get 14 questions correct in two minutes - which can sometimes be a winning amount – but Anne was on her game that day and answered 14 questions with just under a minute to spare.

"I loved playing the game. The experience was enough."
