FOREST of Dean Motor Club has dispelled rumours the popular Wyedean Rally will not go ahead next year by announcing a new date.
After negotiations with the local authorities the club said the event is alive and well, and will revert to its former place in the calendar, November. The event is usually held around the second week of February.
But new safety guidelines introduced by the Motor Sports Association (MSA) this year means the event has to have more trained marshals present to ensure it runs smoothly. Training days will start early in the New Year to coincide as more details on the Wyedean stages are announced.
Anybody interested in marshalling can contact training co-ordinator Jason Morgan on 01594 829800 or email [email protected]
“It’s great to be able to announce the long history and tradition of the Wyedean will continue in 2016.
“We have always had fantastic support from the local community, and now it’s more important than ever that people get behind us. A lot of things have been said since this year’s event but it’s time to draw a line under this and move on,” said former chairman and Wyedean organiser Paul Willetts.
“With these new strict MSA guidelines, it’s now essential that we get plenty of marshals on the Wyedean next year so that’s why we are running these courses to train people in the roles.
“It’s free to come along and you will learn a lot. The motor club needs your help otherwise the future of the Wyedean could be put in jeopardy again.”
