TWO promising singers will get time in a recording studio after being named the winners of a Forest talent competition.

Fourteen-year-old Betty Hughes and Tyler Evans, aged 15, beat off strong competition to win the junior and senior titles of Totally Talented.

The grand final, featuring a total of nine performers, was held at Lydney Town Hall on Saturday night.

The win was especially sweet for Tyler who was pipped to the title last year by Olivia Reed.

Tyler, of Mitcheldean, said: “It’s feels amazing – so much better than coming second.”

Betty only picked up the guitar last year but impressed the judges and an audience of 70 with her playing and singing.

They will also shoot a high-definition DVD and received ?100 as well as a session at the Forest-based Auraphonic studio.

The other finalists were: Jessica Brooks, Ellen Coomb, Rhiannon Jones, Olivia Morgan, Lily Shilston and duet Lizzy Heaman and Bradley Strong.

The final was judged by three musicians who are well-known on the Forest music scene: Tom Browning, Ellie Higgs and Christina O’Carroll.

Ellie said: “There is such a lot of talent in the Forest and its great to have a competition like this to showcase it.

“When you think the winners are only 14 or 15 its incredible.”

Tom said: “Everybody who was part of the Totally Talented final has been absolutely incredible.

“It’s been tough to make the decision but we really enjoyed everyone’s performance.”

The compere for the evening was Tom Atkinson.
