HORRIFIED by the images of funeral pyres of burning animals, a shepherd cannot turn his mind from the flames or the animals he has lost ...
This image was produced by Lydney amateur photographer Bernard Baker, who said he found the personal feelings of people who had lost their animals in the foot and mouth epidemic deeply touching.
"These feelings run very deep, and I felt I had to make this contribution as a tribute to shepherds," he said.
"I feel by their very size these sights can make it seem impersonal to outsiders and we forget the personal anguish of the farmers and shepherds seeing what are almost friends being slaughtered.
"I have tried to convey in some small way this individual torment. I call it The Shepherd's Vision of Hell."
