NOT everyone who disagrees with Cy Roberts is a victim/perpetrator of New Labour spin. As a socialist I despise New Labour and am not interested in defending their record – I just don't happen to think that everyone who works in the public sector is a drone.
According to the Government figures 13,000 jobs (not 105,000) were lost in the private sector and 15,000 (not 30,000) gained in the public sector. All of which goes to prove The Times article was correct and contradicts Cy Roberts (who used the gross data – presumably in an attempt to bolster his argument despite it being misleading).
Whether these new jobs are front line or bureaucratic in nature is not known. His assertion therefore that the public sector now has 30,000 more drones is false on two points –
1) The net number gained in the public sector is 15,000, and
2) The exact nature of the jobs are unknown.
Mr Roberts merely assumed they were administrative which tells you more about his idea of facts than it does about anything going on in the public sector. – Tyler Chinnick (by email).
