MORE than £11,000 has been raised by the Cinderford branch of the Poppy Appeal in just two weeks.
Branch treasurer Heather Harris said the £11,165.05 raised equals the total for the entire 2014/2015 financial year.
She said: “Last year we raised £11,198.91 but that was for the entire of the Poppy Appeal year (September to September). This year’s figure, £11,165.05, is just for the two weeks of the Appeal this year.
“The figure is a remarkable reflection of the hard work of the Poppy Appeal organiser, Nancy Jones, and her team and the generosity of the Cinderford people. Thanks are also due to the management and staff of Lidl and the Co-op in the town.”
The branch has also purchased a new standard and will be ready for future events after its dedication in the New Year.
Branch Chairman Brian Trigg has also been presented with a branch certificate of appreciation by the branch vice-Chairman Geoff Jones.
Mr Trigg has been in post for 10 years and has recently carried out a series of parachute jumps with part of his sponsorship money being donated to the Poppy Appeal and the Cinderford branch. In addition, on the occasion of his recent 77th birthday he requested donations towards the Poppy Appeal and Children in Need in-lieu of birthday presents.
