CINDERFORD rolled back the years last weekend as the town council held a display of memorabilia and artefacts that charted the town’s history, and which drew several hundred people.

The events featured the first display of the Cinderford town hall clock in almost forty years, which had been ‘lost’ following the demolition of the building in the 1970s. It was tracked down and rediscovered by Cinderford town councillor and local historian Mark Turner and its return to public view drew an appreciative audience, many of whom remembered it keeping time in the town centre.

Clerk of the town council, Linda Thomas, told the Review: “It was a wonderful day, and several hundred people came along to see the exhibits that were on show, including old maps of the area, and mining tools, and, of course, the old town hall clock.

“Some people also brought along their own items of memorabilia of the town.

“There was a lot of interest in the panto collection and exhibits, which brought back a lot of memories for local people.”

There are plans to repeat the event in the future, and the town council would be interested to hear of any items of memorabilia connected with the town which could form part of the display.
