FED-UP residents in a Cinderford housing development say they're not standing for waste bags being left in their area for feral animals to demolish.
At least 10 black bin liners were dumped outside Rosedale Court last Tuesday morning in the hope that Biffa men, who were collecting fortnightly waste, would take it. However as the bags weren't in the council-owned black wheelie bins it was left behind with a sticker explaining why.
Within two days of the Forest Council returning to collect it, feral vermin had torn open at least one bag of food waste and left it strewn across the pavement.
The council says the reason for the delay was because nobody had reported the problem, and, had they, a street warden would have visited the area sooner to remove it and find out who was responsible.
Residents say the offender needs to clean-up their act and take their rubbish elsewhere – preferably to the tip!
A resident, who didn't wish to be named, told the Review: "There's absolutely no need for it. The rules for waste collection are simple; it must go in the black bin with the lid shut and if it doesn't, take it to the tip."
Although this isn't the first time there has been a problem with excess bags being put out for collection.
The resident added: "A letter was only issued a couple of months ago from the Forest of Dean District Council explaining to residents in the area that if bin bags aren't in the black bins then Biffa won't take it. It seems the letter has been ignored – but then again we can't be sure it's a resident who is the perpetrator."
Another resident added: "It's not unheard of for foxes to be seen late at night on Station Street, which is nearby, tearing into waste bags. We don't want to encourage them to come here."
A spokesperson for the district council said: "As the recent black bags left out on the street at Rosedale Court were becoming a nuisance to residents, we arranged for a street cleaning crew to clear the waste and clean the area, but unfortunately this is at a cost to the tax payer.
"We will continue to monitor Rosedale Court and the surrounding area to ensure similar incidents do not re-occur in the future."
It's understood the crew identified the offender through looking through the rubbish. A visit to the offender's address will be made soon.
