SATURDAY sees the official launch of the East Dean Market and Coastal Towns Initiative with the Cinderford Fringe, a new mini festival co-ordinated by Dean Arts and Cinderford Artspace.
Jean Florence, manager of Artspace, said: "All good festivals have a fringe. We haven't got the festival yet – that's in the plans for next year – so we are starting with the Fringe and working inwards.
"The fact that Dean Arts have managed to book Hank Wangford for the evening gig at the Miners has given the day a country and western slant, which also brings fringes to mind!"
The Fringe will be happening in Cinderford Triangle, the Miners Welfare Hall and other venues around the town. There will be a mix of good music, street theatre and have a go workshops for all ages kicking off with children's arts workshops in the Miners at 12.30 alongside bellydancing with Hazel Kayes.
During the afternoon there will be a DJ mixing workshop in the young people's zone at 3, Woodside Street and trapeze, circus skills and pavement artistry in the Triangle, where a mix of music, street theatre and performance from visiting professionals and local groups will be happening all afternoon.
The CANDI Cafe plans to be open all afternoon for face painting and hair braiding and at The Palace Cinema there will be a special showing of Mel Brooks' classic 'Blazing Saddles' at 5.30pm.
While all this is happening, volunteers from the East Dean Initiative will be on duty in the Triangle to hear and record your vision for Cinderford in the 21st century.
The grand finale will be a concert at the Miners starting at 8pm, with the legendary Hank Wangford and the Lost Cowboys topping the bill, supported by Mike West and the CANDI dance troupe. Tickets on the door £6 and £4 concessions.
