LYDNEY Town Band have found more children are learning to play brass instruments that they have had to set up a 'starter band' to cope with demand.
Audiences at The Springs Complex in Lydney were treated to a performance by the band on April 22 as the 15 7-11-year-olds took it in turn to play solos and duets.
Roger Powell led the starter band with other tutors, Ken Powell and Kerry Ford helping around the stand. They played two band pieces; Grand Old Duke Of York and Marching Marines and they will be working on new pieces to add to their repertoire.
Roger said: "It was a great opportunity for some of the youngsters to play their first solos in public. The youngsters really enjoyed the support of the audience and we are always looking for new talent to join us."
