THE traders of Cinderford are being asked to plug the town's Christmas lights into their own electricity supply this year.

Town Clerk Lynda Thomas says the council has been unable to make its own plans for town centre lighting this year because of the ongoing improvements programme.

Instead it has been agreed that the council will provide festoon cable, light bulbs and colour converters to all the traders, who are being asked to connect them to their own electricity supply through an RCD circuit breaker.

If necessary, the council will erect the lights on shop frontages for traders.

"Hopefully, everyone will be willing to participate in this scheme to see Cinderford enter the millennium at its brightest," said Mrs Thomas.

She said town council members would be touring Cinderford on Monday to talk to all the traders in turn about the lights plan.
