I am writing to put forward a suggestion that could ease the traffic congestion at Highnam. A set of traffic lights at the entrance to the lodge would seem to be one solution. At the moment all commuters are being put to unnecessary stress and inconvenience by the reintroduction of the hatching, whereas by introducing traffic lights the commuters would be held up for a minimum period. I agree it seems an utter waste to have spent substantial monies in improving what was a nightmare, to then reverse the work when (a) I understand the lodge has another access to use and (b) the problem could be solved to everyone's satisfaction by the introduction of lights.

My next suggestion is concerning the A48 Broadoak bridge. In spite of height warnings there are still lorries hitting the bridge and I would like to know if the drivers are prosecuted for driving without due care and attention.

Once more the disruption of traffic is enormous and can last for many hours, causing problems throughout the Forest, and also on occasions disruption to the train services. The costs entailed must be substantial; police, roadblocks, railway personnel et al and unless the county benefits by fines imposed on the driver/company, who is paying for all this inconvenience?

A solution could be a height detection unit, similar to the one that is in place before the old Severn crossing, or even a substantial height barrier perhaps the Broadoak side of Elton corner. I am sure there must be answers – Wendy Anderson, Newnham.
